Judging a book by it's cover

good bookcoversDo you judge a book by it’s cover? I was recently meandering through one of my favorite bookstores and caught myself playing judge.   I know I have probably passed by a wonderful story based on the first glance of the book’s cover.  In turn,  I have stopped to leaf through a book based solely on it’s cover.  I believe this is not unusual.  Unless you have a specific title in mind, the winning cover can draw attention as you are browsing the shelves.  It is what causes a browser to turn pick-up the book, turn it over and read the back and/or inside covers and this is what sparks the interest.

Speaking of…

first ten penguin books

“The first 10 Penguin books were published by Bodley Head and their success persuaded Lane to launch Penguin as a standalone publisher in 1936. Within a year, Penguin had sold 3 million paperbacks and the skeptics, and there were many, had been proved wrong.”

AbeBooks is offering the first ten books published by Penguin Publishing as a reprint box set.  I love Penguin books and their simplicity of design.  What a great way to start or add to a Penguin book collection.

Wow, I like how you incorporated the history of Penguin, with the giveaway and your own experiences. I ALWAYS judge a book by its cover. I know I shouldn’t but something has to attract me to the book or I wont pick it up.
