This is a challenge I can really sink my teeth into! It is hosted by Carl at Stainless Steel Droppings. The challenge is to read a certain number of books between September 1st and October 31st from the following categories:
- mystery
- suspense
- thriller
- dark fantasy
- gothic
- horror
- supernatural
There are only two goals:
- have fun reading
- share with others as you read
Per Carl: The R.I.P. IV Challenge does not require you to commit to a pre-selected list of books, but in the past many of us have enjoyed posting Reading Pools that include books that we are considering reading during the challenge. The fun thing about this, besides just talking about books (which is always a thrill) is that it gives the rest of the participants ideas about what they might want to read. I have a very broad definition of what qualifies as a book for this challenge. If you think it fits the definition, then that is good enough for me.
There will be a review site to post your thoughts. There are four levels of peril – choose 4 books, choose 2 books, choose 1 book or choose short stories. I know I can attain the 2 book goal but I would love to shoot for 4 books. This is my genre. I have made a great effort to read many books outside my usual subject but heck, it’s a challenge (and an excuse to catch up with some creepy stuff that has been waiting for me).
Here are my book selections – will not read all of them but these are the titles from which I will be making my final decision (I do reserve the right to choose another title if I run across a particular gem). I will be keeping track of my progress here.
- hush, hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
- Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger
- The 13th Hour by Richard Doetsch
- The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
- Frankenstein by Dean Koontz
So turn on your night lights, lock your doors, grab your blankie and get ready to join the thrills!!!

Good Luck! I’ve seen this challenge floating around it looks like fun! All the best!
It seems like everyone will be reading Her Fearful Symmetry! Enjoy your books
Maybe we’ll both read The Historian and Her Fearful Symmetry! This is going to be fun!
