Loving chocolate in style (reviews/giveaways)
Posted on | November 2, 2009 | 47 Comments
The holiday season is here! Time to wear that fancy new ensemble, attending get together after get together and partake in button-popping wonderful feasts. Oh, and the chocolate desserts.
I am a huge fan of Project Runway and was rooting for Christian Siriano during season 4. He was so entertaining and added a spark to each episode. This spark has completely translated into sharing his knowledge of fashion.
Christian’s new book Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self is for every woman. The book is not geared toward size 2 fashionistas but is full of relevant and doable advice. Are you in love with the latest look from a top designer? Christian not only takes a look at those dream garments but their affordable counter-parts and where to they can be found. There is a section finding your personal style including guidelines for dressing for your body type, how clothes are only one part of your fierceness as a whole, and an abundance of realistic tips, including those from celebrities such as Heidi Klum. The photographs are wonderful (there are even photos showcasing his own fashion mistakes) and the writing is….well Christian. There is even an official Christian Siriano glossary to help with his quirky phrases. This is a truly fun read!

I know I mentioned desserts, specifically chocolate. Chocolate: A Love Story by Max Brenner is a chocolate-lovers paradise. The recipes included in this book are so different and decadent. How does “A philosophical highly concentrated fudge brownie” sound? Or “Lipstick banana chocolate cake bonbons”? My daughter and I made the bad boy chocolate pizza. If you think you know dessert pizza, think again. This one includes chocolate-hazelnut spread, semisweet chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips and marshmallows which are the ultimate gooey roasted topping. This one was not for the faint of heart and is just the tip of the chocolate kiss when it comes to the chocolate paradise shared in this book.
Mr. Brenner has been in the chocolate biz for quite a while and is owner of Max Brenner: Chocolate by the Bald Man. He not only shares his recipes but also when and how his love for chocolate started. He also includes an introduction concerning the book’s illustrator, Yonatan. I would be amiss if I did not mention the pictures that accompany the recipes. There is a wonderful mixture of photography and art that is the perfect companion to the delectable concoctions.
