Jane Slayre – Review/Tour

This is where Buffy learned her moves. Jane Slayre comes from a family of slayers but has been raised by her aunt, who just happens to be a vampire. The cousins, vampires. Lucky for Jane, her family considers her a commoner whose blood may be tainted and therefore is not worthy of a good blood-sucking.  This is all that has kept Jane from the fang. Eventually Jane is sent to away to school only to find it is actually a zombie factory selling the latest creations to families as governesses. Jane then becomes a governess for the brooding, yet beguiling, Mr. Rochester and falls in love only to find there is a dark and hairy secret hidden in the attic. Escaping the anguish of lost love, Jane meets and trains with a certified vampire slayer and begins teaching these life-saving skills to the girls of the town. Yet, Jane is unfulfilled.  Will Jane ever find her slaying side of the family? Will she ever be reunited with Mr. Rochester?

Sherri Browning Erwin has kept the voice and tone of Charlotte Bronte in this wonderful mashup – Jane Slayre. Ms. Erwin has incorporated vampires and other ghouls and beasties while keeping the classic story intact. There is a little gore, quite a bit of humor and tremendous fun.

This sounds like a really fun book, I’m just not sure yet if my love for the original story would get in the way of my enjoyment of the mash up. Will need to think on it a bit more :)

I just read the first bit of this book when it was featured on Shelf Awareness. I usually think I wouldn’t be in to these remakes, but I really enjoyed what I read. I may have to purchase this one.
