I knew I would not wake up to my alarm. I take that back, I woke up, turned it off and went right back to bed. I barely remember. I did wake up at 3:00 or the dogs woke me up. This better not become a habit. There are only 30 minutes left of my 24 hours. I am closing the book on this challenge now to update and participate in the End of Event meme. This has been such great fun. The cheerleaders, mini-challenges and meme’s have just added to the experience. I may not have read as much as I hoped but it was well worth participating. Looking forward to the next read-a-thon.

End of Event meme

1. Which hour was most daunting for you? Hour 16 is when the sleepiness hit at full-speed.
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? Rebecca completely held my interest. The time flew while I was reading it.
3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? I truly do not – this was wonderfully organized and promoted. Congrats to those heading up this wonderful project.
4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? The mini-challenges and meme’s were great fun. The broke up the reading. I especially loved the comments from the cheerleaders. Gave me somthing to look forward to each hour.
5. How many books did you read? Did not finish one. Oh well!
6. What were the names of the books you read? I read part of Rebecca and Ecoholic.
7. Which book did you enjoy most? Rebecca
8. Which did you enjoy least? None
9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders? n/a
10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time? I would most definitely participate again. I may want to be a cheerleader. I enjoyed the motivation they provided and think it would be great fun to check on everyone’s progress.

Thanks again to the cheerleaders and especially the organizers. Amazing job!

I am going to have to give in and rest up the ol’ eyeballs for a while. No reading and no computer. I am reading the same paragraphs over again because I am fading out while reading – reading comprehension wha?. The final straw is the fact that I found myself with my head leaned back and my book on the floor. I knew I was going to be in trouble when I woke up at 3:00 this morning and would not be able to nap for a little bit in the afternoon – dang baby shower!!! I am setting my alarm for an hour but this is no guarantee. I am basically a rock when I fall asleep at night. It is only 11:00 but as the years go by I find I am not able to stay up as late as my younger days.

Just want to thank the cheerleaders – you have all been super!

Well, that baby shower sure took longer then expected. It was worth it to celebrate my being an Aunt for the first (and possibly only) time and it was lovely!!!! I got home, fed the dogs and cats and was ready to jump on the computer to update quickly. I walk into my room and there is my daughter on the… you guessed it… computer. No reason to get frazzled. I grabbed my book, threw on a jacket and some snuggly socks and took the pets outside and read. I switched out books and started Ecoholic. I want to save Rebecca as I am worried I may start getting too tired (been up since 3:00) and I want to be able to savor each word – stunning book! The sun started going down so I brought the furry group in and read. I was on a role. The computer became free and I still read. Now, I need a break to rest my eyes, update my progress, participate in a couple of the still open memes and take a peek at how others are faring on this day of book love.

Well, hour 1 is over (for my time zone at least). Being the first time I have participated, I did not really plan on how to update my reading progress. I am going to make it pretty simple – book, number of pages, time spent reading. I will not be able to update each hour but will as often as possible.

This is a mini-challenge being hosted by Word Lily. The challenge is to make #readathon a trending twitter topic, take a screen shot and post to your blog. Well, it has already happened but my screen print is not working. This is about as close as i can get – I copied and pasted the trending topic. Hope this counts! Go read-a-thonners!!!!

It is 7:09 am CST and I am getting ready to sit back, sip my coffee and dive back into Rebecca. My dogs were nice enough to wake me up at 3:00 am so I picked out a few books and made a semi-plan for reading and posting. I have to fess up right away that I won’t be making a full 24 hours of reading/posting/blog hopping. I forgot I have a baby shower to attend this afternoon but that is only a couple of hours. This will still be a book-centric day!!!! Okay, off to read! Good luck to everyone!

Now for the hour 1 meme:

Where are you reading from today? I am reading in Omaha, NE.

3 facts about me? I have a 18 (19 at the end of December) year old daughter, I hate winter, my dogs and cats are already driving me nuts today.

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? I have 4 at the moment but reserve the right to change it up at any time.

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)? My main goal is to just read as much as possible. I do not have any set numbers (pages or hours). I also want to visit as many participants blogs as possible and actually attempt to use twitter.

If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, Any advice for people doing this for the first time? Nope, first timer and I need all the advice I can get!

This is a challenge I can really sink my teeth into! It is hosted by Carl at Stainless Steel Droppings. The challenge is to read a certain number of books between September 1st and October 31st from the following categories:

mystery

suspense

thriller

dark fantasy

gothic

horror

supernatural

There are only two goals:

have fun reading

share with others as you read

Per Carl: The R.I.P. IV Challenge does not require you to commit to a pre-selected list of books, but in the past many of us have enjoyed posting Reading Pools that include books that we are considering reading during the challenge. The fun thing about this, besides just talking about books (which is always a thrill) is that it gives the rest of the participants ideas about what they might want to read. I have a very broad definition of what qualifies as a book for this challenge. If you think it fits the definition, then that is good enough for me.

There will be a review site to post your thoughts. There are four levels of peril – choose 4 books, choose 2 books, choose 1 book or choose short stories. I know I can attain the 2 book goal but I would love to shoot for 4 books. This is my genre. I have made a great effort to read many books outside my usual subject but heck, it’s a challenge (and an excuse to catch up with some creepy stuff that has been waiting for me).

Here are my book selections – will not read all of them but these are the titles from which I will be making my final decision (I do reserve the right to choose another title if I run across a particular gem). I will be keeping track of my progress here.

hush, hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger

The 13th Hour by Richard Doetsch

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova

Frankenstein by Dean Koontz
